1. The National Library of Kosovo


This building is both one of the most famous and infamous in all of Kosovo. It was voted one of the ugliest buildings in all the land, but people can’t seem to stop taking pictures of it and by it. Suffice it to say, you have to see this building for yourself to form your own opinion on it. Located in Pristina, this national library certainly shocks the senses.

The building looks like a bunch of cubes of different sizes all wrapped in a kind of metal fishing net design. The staff also hosts various events in this library to educate the public, so it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the capital city.






2. Gërmia Park


Since Pristina is the urban center of Kosovo, residents simply needed an escape to remind them of the untouched beauty of Kosovo. That place is the Gërmia Park. Here visitors will be greeted with clean air, plenty of walking trails, and bicycles for rent.

People are encouraged to bike or jog through this area if they so choose. If you get hungry, there are plenty of restaurants throughout the area offering authentic cuisine with scenic views. There is also a pristine swimming pool located here for people who feel the urge to take a quick dip.






3. Ethnographic Museum


Generally, when people ask what to do in Kosovo, their mind goes straight for the capital city. It is true that the capital, named Pristina, is the most trafficked tourist area in all of Kosovo. The most popular tourist destination in this city is actually the Ethnographic Museum.

It is here that guests can get the most detailed information on the complicated and unique history of this region’s peoples. Just a few of the many beautiful artifacts preserved here include clothing, jewelry, and carpets from Kosovo’s past. 4. Brod


Brod is actually the name of a southern village in a mountainous region of Kosovo. There are no historical Kosovo tourist attractions to see here, and that is exactly the point. 5. Madhe Mosque

Many people who see this mosque also stop in at the church right next door. This church is called the Cathedral Church of St. Uroš, and it was consecrated in 1923. This mosque is pure white and located right in the center of this clean city center. These two buildings stand in the heart of Ferizaj, and they are a major symbol of religious tolerance in the city.






6. Mehmet Pasha Hamam


If you are still in the city of Prizren, then you might find the Mehmet Pasha Hamam interesting. Although you cannot go inside these old Turkish baths, many guests who see these relics of a bygone era are impressed by their architectural grandeur. This is yet another example of the heavy Ottoman influence in this city. Since it is right in the center of Prizren, you probably won’t miss it after a trip to the famous mosque.






7. Brezovica Ski Resor



When some people ask about what to do in Kosovo, they honestly don’t care about the history or art. A lot of people only come here for winter sports. If you are one of those people, then look no further than the Brezovica Ski Resort. This resort is located in the southern area of Kosovo right on a portion of the great Šar Mountains. Currently there are five ski lifts and about 16km of official ski slopes for guests to enjoy here.

.To meet the increased demand, Brezovica hosts four local hotels to satisfy the needs of all skiers visiting this area. Brezovica has actually been recently building itself up to become an international sports destination for professional skiers. 8. Old Bazaar of Peja


While in the town of Peja, you should do as the locals do, right? Well, the best place to act like a native of this town is to take a quick trip to the Old Bazaar. You will find architecture here that dates back to around the 14th century. All throughout this area guests will find an enchanting bazaar shopping experience. There are many modern restaurants and shops all around this bazaar, which makes it a perfect location to get some retail therapy in Kosovo.






9. Mirusha Waterfalls


Sticking with the theme of waterfalls, another great waterfall destination in Kosovo is the Mirusha Waterfalls in the centrally located Mirusha Park. Many locals actually come to these lakes to swim on a regular basis. There are about 13 lakes all around this park with various waterfalls to enjoy. If you don’t want to get wet, you can also explore the many caves and canyons located here as well. Although not as high as the White Drin Waterfall, Mirusha Park is another relaxing place to stop by if you love taking in the natural wonder of Kosovo.






10. White Drin Waterfall


While you are still in Peć, you should check out the White Drin Waterfall, which is only about 11km away from the main city center. This waterfall area is officially located n the village of Radavc. The waterfall itself spills into, no surprise, the White Drin River. Tourists are allowed to enjoy both the 82-foot waterfall and the cave that is located nearby. This cave is full of many stalactites that any nature enthusiast will just love.






11. Patriarchate of Peć


This is yet another medieval Serbian Orthodox monastery you should check out. Built between the 13th and 14th centuries, this great monastery is actually composed of four distinct churches, three of which are connected. Visitors can discover this religious treasure in the western city of Peć.

This monastery is smack dab in the center of a serene natural setting, right near the wonderful Rugova Canyon and Peć Bistrica River. Visitors will get healthy dose of medieval Serbian history as they tour this monastery. Even today, this monastery remains of central importance to the religious life of locals.






12. Gračanica Monastery


This Serbian Orthodox monastery was built all the way back in the 1300s in the central town of Gračanica. Built on the site of an even older church dedicated to Virgin Mary, this monastery never fails to impress visitors. The design of this church has extreme symbolic resonances, and it represents the highest expression of medieval art in all of Kosovo.

The monastery has a very intricate and symbolically resonant architectural design. It was actually designed in the form of a double cross. The domes of this monastery make it particularly distinctive from the outside. Inside, guests will be able to view many different styles of painting across the wall of this monastery. Many different painting genres tell the tales of the New Testament all across the interior walls. Just as a quick tip, many guests who have visited this monastery recommend bringing a powerful flashlight with you in order to see the paintings better.






13. Sinan Pasha Mosque


This mosque, which is also centrally located in Prizren, is one of the many officially recognized historical sites by the Republic of Serbia in Kosovo. For those who don’t know, Kosovo was actually a part of the Ottoman Empire from the 15th to the 20th century. Once the Ottomans came into power in this region, they immediately started to build amazing mosques all around the region. This particular mosque is one of the most famous in all of Kosovo.

It was designed by Sofi Sinan Pasha in the early 1600s. Although it just looks like a kind of box from the outside, it is the interior that really startles guests. Inside, guests will behold glorious paintings, elegant Arabic calligraphy, and a jaw-dropping designs all around the interior of the central dome. Prizren is just full of historical Kosovo tourist attractions, and you will see a few more from this fabulous city as this list goes on.






14. Rugova Mountains


Everyone who visits Kosovo must take a trip up at least one of this area’s stunning mountains. One of the most mystical places you could ever visit in Kosovo, or perhaps even in the world, is located in the northwestern city of Peja. These mountains, officially known as the Rugova Mountains, are so magisterial that many people have dubbed them the “Albanian Alps.” These mountains are perfect for any type of adventurer.

If you want to hike, paraglide, ski, or mountain climb, you can do it here. Also, if you just want to drive up and picnic while taking in these stunning views, you can do that as well. If you get the chance, try to see these mountains as soon as you can. They may become mainstream before you know it. Indeed, the Rugova Mountains are becoming more and more popular as snow sports enthusiasts are discovering the perfect conditions these mountains offer for snowboarding and skiing.






15. Kaljaja Fortress


Anyone interested in medieval history will just love this well-preserved fortress. Located on a hill in the historic southern city of Prizren, this huge fortress overlooks the town of Prizren and the scenic Prizren Bistrica River. This fortress actually dates back to the times of the Serbian Empire, both protecting it and allowing this city to prosper throughout many ages. Prizren was, after all, the capital of the Serbian Empire for a time. Also, the view visitors get of Prizren from the fortress has been hailed by some as one of the most picturesque views in all of Europe.
